The Lord's Prayer

Jesus is speaking in Matthew 6:9-13. He tells how we should pray:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever.

Amen.

The prayer begins with the importance of establishing a close relationship with God.
It proclaims that only God is Holy and worthy of praise. It tells us that God's plans will be fulfilled on Earth. It proclaims the Word of God to be the Bread of Life. It asks that we be forgiven for falling short of true goodness. And that we have the heart to forgive others. It asks that we be led in the right way by God through the Holy Spirit who is inside us and leads us away from temptation and evil. It proclaims that all that is good comes from God.

Note: The Lord's Prayer is not a prayer we are to memorize and recite to God. It is an example of the things that should be included in prayer: worship, trust in God, requests, confession, and submission. In prayer we elaborate on the things that the Lord's Prayer talks about, using our own words that fit with our personal journey and relationship with God.
